PalaPala is women’s wearable art by Barbara.
PalaPala is my Hawaiian name and my daughter, Ilimela, is wearing one of our original
designs. After spending several years in Hawaii, I returned to California with my
beautiful daughter and later a wonderful son, Frank. Now along with their spouses,
Rick and Marnice, I am blessed with four grandchildren, Garrett and Jada, and Nathan and
Brett. I also left Hawaii loving the flavor of island clothing -- garments that are
unique, functional and easily maintained.
I have been designing and sewing for over 40 years. My college work in textiles and clothing
included pattern making, construction techniques and design. But my favorite area became
aesthetics, the understanding of how women choose garments and colors. I have taught various
clothing classes at college, community and design schools, have provided alterations services,
and have managed retail fabric and clothing stores.
Palapala began long before the first year, 1997, a dream brought to life. We hope to see or
hear from you and to have you enjoy our garments!
